In the Queue

Hello loves! Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far; I know I am!

In my DVD and Instant Queue this week:

I have always been a huge fan of CSI. We own the first 9 seasons on dvd. Although I still find the actual cases to be interesting, the cast is definitely lacking charisma and chemistry ever since Grissom left the show and Warrick was killed off. Boy do I miss those baby blues!

We are finally on the last season! (Well the last televised season) And again, without the regular appearance of Giles, the show is somewhat lacking in the charm and adorable british accents department. You can sense that Joss Whedon was trying to wrap up all loose ends in this last season and I can only hope that he ends it with class and finality. (TEAM SPIKE!)

So what are your latest tube obsessions?

Thanks to Netflix for the pictures!

Ti Amo Thursdays

Oh my, its already Thursday! Hope you all have been having a good week. Here's what piqued my interest this week.

I follow many fashion blogs but my favorite is Erika's Cafe Fashionista. Not only is she a fantastic writer, she has amazing fashion sense and is one of the sweetest girls I've ever encountered on the web. She has a weekly feature entitled Thrifty Thursday which featured this gorgeous blazer from Forever 21:
And for only $22.80 its definitely getting added to the after tax season shopping list!

Another thing to look forward to after tax season is Las Vegas. My husband and I along with a couple of friends are trekking all the way from Cincinnati to Sin City for a 4 day weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. My Kodak digital camera is over 3 years old which as we know in electronic age is ancient history, so I've been shopping for a new point-n-shoot to catalog our crazy wolf pack adventures. I haven't made up my mind completely but one of the contenders is:

To say I take a lot of pictures is the understatement of the century so I really need to find a camera that is easily portable but still takes amazing shots.

And as I started thinking of Vegas, I imagined a sunny day laying by the pool at our hotel (the Mirage) sipping a cocktail and possibly wearing this (if only I had the body!):

I think this retro silhouette is simply stunning. Its sexy but not trashy. I really need to get back in the gym..

Enough about me, what do you have your eyes on loves?

Thanks to Forever 21, Best Buy and Victoria's Secret for the pictures!

Trending Now

As I was perusing my March issue of Elle, I noticed they devoted a whole spread to the purest of all colors. And they're not the only ones focusing on the whitest of whites. Designers everywhere are celebrating Spring with bursts of colors but they're also releasing glorious neutrals in the most heavenly shades. Here are a few budget friendly finds to show off your more than your pearly whites come Spring.

Snowberry Lane Lace White Dress from Lulu*s
This is white hot right now especially since the 70s era is making a huge comeback this year. With the gorgeous lace and flowy bell sleeves I would definitely pair this with combat boots and some hard accesories to even out all that frill. But if you want to keep it classic, a pair of wedges or wooden platforms would look darling. Speaking of wooden platforms..

Now this is the type of shoe that upon staring too long will cause drool. And for $38 you don't even have to feel guilty! I would wear these with a bright colored or floral dress for a date with the man or some boyfriend jeans and a simple tank if I want to keep it casual.

This pick should come as no surprise.. it has "butterfly" in the shirt description! I adore the detailing in the sleeves and think that the stylists from F21 nailed it. The model looks simply gorgeous!

Thanks to Lulu*s, Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 for the pictures!

Manic Monday

My apologies loves for not posting the past few days. As I am the only contributor to this blog, life does happen and will inevitably get in the way of my posting sometimes. I hope you all understand :)

Without blabbering on, I hope you enjoyed your weekend and don't have a case of the Mondays!
Here are a few songs that have been on my mind today:

Hooverphonic-Eden
So haunting and chilling. Perfect for a rainy day (which it is here in Northern KY today)

Evanescense-Lies
Its definitely the rain. Last FM must sense my gloomy mood today.

They Might Be Giants-Birdhouse in your Soul

Yet, there's always a light at the end of that dark tunnel and today it was They Might Be Giants. Its hard not to nod your head and tap your feet to They Might Be Giants.

Ti Amo Thursdays

Hello loves, hope everything is as sunny and airy for you as it is for me today. Birds are chirping and there is a warmth to the breeze. Spring must be coming soon! But, as it is only the middle of February in the Ohio Valley I am sure we have not cleared winter yet. So in addition to thoughts of spring, here are a few things that perked me up today.

Winging It Stretch Waist Belt from Charlotte Russe
I'm usually not a fan of belts, its just a personal thing. But I adore the whimsy of butterflies and that in combination with the studded leather has won me over. What's even better is that at $9.50 it won't bust our wallets!

This is simply mod, but not so simple on the price. At a mere $135 (gulp) you can have this bella, bella dress. And as a crochet and knit hobbyist, I appreciate the crochet details.

This made-for-tv movie is my favorite rendition of Alice in Wonderland. Its dreamy, its whimsical and the bit of weird and quirky that is Alice, but the cast does such a spectacular job and the storyline is a refreshing twist off of the classic tale. I personally was not a fan of Alice until I watched this version. And as much I love Johnny Depp, I still like it better than Tim Burton's.

So what have you had your eyes on this week?

Thanks to Charlotte Russe, TopShop and Amazon for the pictures!

Trending Now

The great thing about fashion is that it is interchangeable. You can mix designers, wear a high fashion item with a no-label staple, or even wear items from a different time. I have many pieces in my own closet that are over 10 years old because I know at one point the trend will be recycled. 2010 had a resurgence of the 80s whereas 2011 seems to be all about the 70s and 90s. One of the big trends of the 90s that I remember is floral prints and this Spring is all about stopping to smell the roses! Or tulips, or daisies.. I think you get the point. So here are some of my favorite picks from the bouquet:

Floral Polka Dot Dress from GoJane
I really like this dress from GoJane because it is more conservative and subdued in regards to the floral aspect (plus it has polka dots!). I could easily wear this to work with tights and flats. I could dress it up for date-night with sky high pumps and dramatic makeup or keep it low-key for a shopping date with the girls by wearing sandals and a straw hat. The possibilities are endless!

Again, I really enjoy the subtlety of the trend. I also love how this tunic has a bit of an exotic vibe to it. I myself would not be daring enough to wear it alone but it is an option. Or if you are more body conscious like me, some leggings or skinny jeans with wedge sandals or pumps would really complete this look. The one nice thing about the floral trend is there is not much need for accessories.

But if you don't want to overload on the trend and do just want to incorporate it into your accessories, Etsy has a wide array of floral jewelry such as this gorgeous ring:

And there is an over abundance of scarves and headbands at many of the retail chains such as Forever 21, Charlotte Russe and H&M.

So will you be wearing your favorite flowers come spring? Or will you leave it all to nature?

Thanks to GoJane, Forever 21 and Etsy for the pictures!

Thrift Store Finds

Whew, what a hectic day today was! Anyways, the super talented Steve Maisch of Steve Maisch Photography has used some more of my pre-purchased swag from a thrift store for his latest shoot with the lovely Andrea Mann.

This cute top was actually a "vintage" find from my own closet. I know I bought it from Charlotte Russe for about $16 over 5 years ago. So the accountant in me knows I wore it at least 10 times (I have a bad habit of only wearing something a few times and then it gets tossed around for years until you finally decide to donate or trash it!) and with depreciation the top is probably worth only around $1

Look at those legs! Wowza! I found this pink wrap dress at a local thrift store for only $1.50! I think I would have personally paired it with some black booties to give it a bit of edge but Andrea is a knock out and can make even lucite heels look sexy. (I'm obviously not a big fan of lucite)
I am looking forward to my next thrift store visit! Hopefully I can find some items to add to my own closet this time :)

Thanks to Steve Maisch Photography and Andrea Mann for permision to use the photos!

Best Dressed: Grammy's

Many women looked outstanding last night but Jennifer Hudson took the cake for me. I thought she looked radiant and the Versace dress made her newly slimmed figure look amazing! Plus, those LB's are to die for! Her tribute to Aretha Franklin was beautiful (if only Xtina were not involved it would have been a perfect performance) and she carries a grace that not many celebrities possess.

Manic Monday

Did everyone watch the Grammy's last night? Wow, there were some really great performances and some not so great. My personal favorite of the night was Cee Lo with Gwyneth singing "Forget You". Its hard not to smile during that song! But as I thought of today's music I couldn't help but notice that 3 artists that appeared on the Twilight Saga soundtracks were nominated last night! So for those of you who knock on us Twilight fans, at least we listen to great music! ;) (An additional side note: I adore Florence Welch from Florence & The Machine)

Muse-Supermassive Blackhole

Paramore-Decode

Florence & The Machine- Heavy in Your Arms

Thanks to YouTube for the videos! Hope you are all having a not so Manic Monday since its Valentine's Day! ;)

From My Stovetop to Yours

Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry
This recipe is from the P90X cookbook.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium)
1/2 red onion, sliced
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1.5 pound top sirloin steak, sliced 1 inch thick
1 tablesoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon ginger, minced
4 cups broccoli florets
8 ounces dried soba noodles

Directions:
1. Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil.
2. Meanwhile, heat a small amount of soy sauce in a large saute pan, add the onions and garlic and saute until opaque.
3. Add beef and saute, turning often for 7 to 10 minutes. Stir together the oil, vinegar and ginger and add to the saute mixture.
4. Blanch broccoli in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Add to the meat mixture and keep warm.
5. Prepare soba noodles according to package directions. Drain, toss with the beef and broccoli, and serve.
Serves 4

We have tweaked the recipe a bit at my house. We no longer add the soba noodles, because I wasn't a big fan of them and they didn't reheat very well for leftovers, however scrapping the noodles will decrease your servings to a large 2 or small 3. And we use white onion instead of red, simply because we use white onion in a lot of our other recipes during the week so it is merely more convenient. Overall, this is a weekly staple that we really enjoy making together!

Hope everyone has a Happy Sunday!

In the Queue

It's Saturday which means its time for the weekly Netflix queue update. I'm hoping these entries will give you ideas on some movies or tv shows to watch, while you can also recommend some to me as well!

Well, coming in the mail today is..
My husband has been watching the cartoon for the better part of the last month and we finally get to experience the feature length film. I don't know much of the story but it has Jackson Rathbone from Twilight (Jasper) so at least I'll have some eye candy.

And streaming on my instant queue this past week has been..

Yes, I am EXTREMELY late to joining the Grey's Community. I'm still not all that crazy about it and I only have 3 episodes left in the first season. Don't get me wrong, McDreamy and Izzy makes it incredibly enjoyable but I am always distracted by how extremely thin Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh are. Plus I don't really relate to the whole hospital dynamic (who wants to work 100 hours a week on crap pay?!) But that may just be my bitterness from my winter weight gain :/

So, what are you watching this week? Have a great rest of the weekend!

Thanks to Netflix for the pictures!

A Day of Release

I have a morning routine. I get to work, I check my three different email accounts and I log in to Facebook and read the feeds for about 10-15 min and by then my mind is finally ready to work so I proceed to move on to more productive things. Well, I was beyond excited when I log in to Facebook today to find that not only has Lady Gaga released the first single for her new album, but that one of my favorite bands Shiny Toy Guns has regained their original lead singer Carah Faye. Carah left the band a few years back and was replaced by Sisely Treasure who was fine and all but I love love love Carah and am beyond thrilled that she is back with the band and that they are making new music and will be touring soon! I have been listening to Shiny Toy Guns radio on Pandora since last night and its been a magical 12 hours. It surely is something bright and shiny to break up these gray and dreary days of winter!

If you haven't heard the Lady Gaga song yet, you must listen!!
I can't even call her a guilty pleasure, because I have no shame when it comes to Gaga. She's crazy, she's over the top, but I love it all.

And here is the video that Shiny Toy Guns released at midnight announcing Carah's return. I teared at the end (I am such a sucker for reunions) along with their first big hit so you can see one of the many reasons I love Carah and STG.

Ti Amo

Time for my weekly bliss as I "window" shop the 'net for new obsessions to add to the ever growing "wish" list.

Cut-out lace up slinkbacks from GoJane

If you haven't figured it out by now, I am a HUGE supporter of GoJane.com! They offer the latest in clothing, shoes and accessories at great prices. Now how adorable are these sling backs?!

I really enjoy the juxtaposition of this necklace and how it represents both hard and soft natures.. Etsy is great for rare and unique finds like this!

I think this beauty would look gorgeous on my porcelain skin! I must find a more frugal alternative-stat!

What has caught your fancy this week loves?

Thanks to GoJane, Etsy and Dillards for the pictures!

Trending Now

So back in 2004, way back when I met my husband, polka dots and initials were the rage. I remember carrying my polka dot "J" purse proudly. So it makes me gleefully excited to say that one of the current trends for spring is polka dots!!!! I mean, in my opinion, there is no other print that can be sexy, classy, and cute on all ages for all occasions. I've listed a few of my favorites for the frugalista in all of us!

Sheer Cropped Polka Dot top by GoJane
This little top would be perfect for either lunch out with your girlfriends or date-night with the boy!

This beauty can easily go from day to night. Simply swap a tailored blazer for a jeweled tank!

These adorable flats would look great with both a skirt or pair of skinnies, no?

And finally, for those who really want to turn some heads (and pull out the cash)..

If only it were yellow..

So what current trends are you following loves? What has you squealing like a little girl and reaching for the checkbooks? (Does anyone even write checks anymore?!)

Thanks to GoJane, Charlotte Russe, Zappos and ShopBop for the pictures!

Fabulously Local

Hello dah-lings! This weekend is the weekend. The one full of pink and roses and champagne and chocolate. Or not. Here are a few things going on in the Cincinnati area this weekend for both the single and attached:

Cincinnati Beerfest
The 4th Annual Beerfest is being held at the Duke Convention Center both Friday and Saturday night. Over 172 craft beers from 45 different breweries--if you like beer this is a must! VIP's get in an hour early and also get a "REAL" sovenir glass. Click the link for ticketing info!

A Midsummer's Night Dream
For the Shakespearean afficionado, the Cincinnati Ballet is putting on their production of A Midsummer's Night Dream this weekend, offering both matinee and evening performances at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.

Lady In Red
The Mt Adam's Pavillion is hosting a "Lady in Red" event on Saturday from 9 pm-2 am. There will be 2 DJs and a drink special of $2 champagne flutes. If you want to get your groove on with your man or your girls, this is the place to be on Saturday night!

Valentine's Night at the Observatory
Fellas, if you really want to score some brownie points with your lady, this is surely the most romantic local event I've seen! On Valentine's night from 7 to 9, the Cincinnati Observatory is hosting their annual star gazing event. If my husband wasn't in class, we would definitely be doing this!

And how cute is this? Maybe my man will get the urge to cut my pepperoni into little hearts (ha!)

For those of you who are not local, what will you be doing this weekend? What do your cities have to offer?

Manic Monday

As I overslept this morning I couldn't help but sing "Just another Manic Monday" in my head as I rushed around the house. Thus the inspiration for another feature. I love music! Love love love music. As I'm sure all of you do. So what better way to share this love then to post videos of the top 3 songs that have been in my head all day, every day for the last week!

Britney Spears-Toxic
Thanks to Glee, I've been listening to Britney for the better part of a week now. And as rocky as the last few years have been for her, I still love her.

Yolanda Be Cool vs D Cup-We No Speak Americano
My husband, my best friend and I went to Europe last Fall and this was playing in every club and bar over there. Its quirky, its infectious.

Soho Dolls-Stripper

I've been crazy about this song ever since Miss Blair stripped her way into Chuck's heart with this song. Wow, that was so long ago on GG. Nonetheless, any time it comes up on my Itunes or Last FM, booty shakin is bound to ensue.

So what songs are causing you to hit repeat this week?

From My Stovetop to Yours

I joined Weight Watchers last November and while I haven't really lost much weight, my husband and I have become quite the chef couple. So I thought a nice feature would be to share some yummy (and easy!) recipes to try on your own.

Slow Cooker Chicken Burritos

Servings: 12
Prep Time: 16 min
Cooking Time: 300 min
PointsPlus Value: 5

Ingredients:
1 clove(s) garlic clove(s), minced (medium)
1 small red onion(s), chopped
14.5 oz canned diced tomatoes, with chiles
15 oz canned kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp dried oregano, crushed
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 pound skinless chicken thigh(s), cut into bite-size pieces
3/4 cup canned chicken broth
12 medium whole wheat tortilla(s), about 7 inches in diameter each
3/4 cup(s) shredded reduced-fat Mexican-style cheese

Instructions:
Place garlic, onion, tomatoes, beans, chili powder, salt, oregano and pepper in a 3 quart slow cooker; stir well. Add chicken and broth. Cover and cook on low setting for 5 hours; drain off liquid (there should be about 6 cups of burrito mixture)

To serve, spoon about 1/2 cup of burrito mixture down center of each tortilla; top with 1 tablespoon of cheese. Fold bottom 1/3 of tortilla to center. Fold left side to center; fold ride side to center, covering filling. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Yields 1 burrito per serving.

In the Queue

Accounting for Fabulous is about more than fashion. The hopes for this blog is that we can discuss any and all things that give us something to look forward to after we clock out for the day (or after the school bell rings). In the Queue is going to be a feature about movies and television shows that are in my own personal Netflix queue. Netflix is one of the greatest ideas in the last decade! I have to say that my husband and I are avid supporters, so it only made sense to have a feature for my blog discussing our latest tube obsessions.

Arriving in our mailbox today should be..
We are latecomers to the Glee Nation. We resisted as long as we could and finally broke down a couple of months ago, shortly after we joined the Netflix hysteria. After a few episodes, of course we were hooked. The quirky storylines, the outrageous characters, the fun musical numbers.. what's not to love? I'm tickled pink that Brittany has a more prevalent role in Season 2. The Brittany episode was fantastic! Looking forward to seeing Gwyneth Paltrow and her "Forget You" rendition.

And on our Instant Queue:

I had never watched Buffy until Netflix. But my husband insisted that I be introduced to this cult favorite. I have to say I was a bit skeptical at first but after the first season, I finally was hooked. I also have to add that I am NOT an Angel fan. This confuses many friends of mine because of the uncanny similarities between Angel and Edward from Twilight because I am a Twi-hard. (I think Stephanie Meyer watched a lot of Buffy!) But the term "DB" comes to mind any time he enters my 42" Vizio screen and I inwardly cringe anytime he speaks. Spike, on the other hand.. yum-my!

So what are you lovely ladies (and gents) watching?

LVD

With Valentine's right around the corner, its time to find that perfect LVD (Little Valentine's Dress). Whether you're attached and going to spend a romantic evening with your S.O. or single and looking to hit the town with your girls, I have found a dress for anyone who wants to look fabulous without busting their wallet. Although, after you see the last few that are splurge-worthy you may decide to grab the plastic!

Frugalista (all under $50):
Eric Daman Sequin Party Dress from Charlotte Russe for the glam girl
Bead Trim Dress from Forever 21 for the bad ass (who still has a heart)

Splurge-worthy:

So what do you have you eyes on for the special day? Are you going to whip out the plastic and splurge for V-Day or keep it low-key on both the mind and wallet? Happy Friday and Happy Hunting!

Thanks to Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, GoJane, ShopBop, Dillards and Nordstrom for the pictures!

Ti Amo

One thing you may want to know about me is that I am in love with all things Italian and will probably talk about it A LOT. So it only seemed fitting to have a feature of all things I am loving at the moment. (FYI: ti amo means "I love you" in Italian!)

So without further ado:
Merona Houdstooth Rain Boots from Target
Ahh, houndstooth is one of my favorite patterns. So sophisticated and matches anything! These beauties are only $24.99--maybe for a tax season present?

Sheer Paneled Maxi Skirt from GoJane

I am not usually a fan of sheer but there is something classically sexy about these skirts. I haven't worn an ankle length skirt since.. never. But I may have to break that rule for this sheer delight!

Black Swan Blu Ray from Amazon

Ahh, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved this movie! Natalie Portman was muy bellisimo in her performance in the psychological thriller and just thinking about the ending still gives me chills. I have already bought the soundtrack, Tchaikovsky's score of Swan Lake, and 2 ballet workout dvds to get me back into dancer shape. I (im)patiently await for this masterpiece to arrive in my mailbox.

So, what are you loving at the moment? What has you itching to reach for the plastic?

Thanks to Target, GoJane and Amazon for the pictures!

Thrift Store Finds

In the past year, I have been fortunate enough to have worked with the very talented Steve Maisch of Steve Maisch Photography. We have done two shoots together and both were a lot of fun. At our last shoot, I had mentioned to Steve that my favorite aspect of photoshoots is the styling. And he and his wife expressed that they had always wanted to send someone into a thrift store to pick out wardrobe for photoshoots on a limited budget. So, lo and behold, they gave me the challenge of picking 2-3 outfits on a $25 budget. At first I thought there was no way I could successfully complete this. But with the help of my mother in law, we scoured the racks of a local thrift store for hours and ended up with a plastic bag full of MULTIPLE outfits for $23.85-- yep always the frugal accountant :) Here you can see the fruits of my labor:

1. This is very "Clueless" but I was inspired by the recent trend of cut off tops and tweed. The pink top was $1.50 and the tweet skirt was $2.50 As you can see, the model Whitney modeled them beautifully.

 2. We found this gorgeous faux fur wrap for $8! Steve always like to have an outfit that is on the sexier side and I envisioned exactly this.
Overall, I think everyone involved was extremely pleased with the results and Steve still has multiple outfits to use from my one shopping trip. This challenge has inspired me to make regular trips to the thrift store to see what fashion treasures I can find for myself or my fashion community.

For more information on Steve Maisch Photography please follow his blog at http://www.stevemaischphotography.blogspot.com/ or visit his website at http://www.stevemaisch.com/

Thanks Steve for the pictures!

Fabulously Local

I hail from the Ohio River Valley, about 20 min south of Cincinnati in a small town in Northern Kentucky. I'm going to interrupt your thoughts of horses and hillbillies to tell you that this area actually has a decent dance and art scene but Cincinnati has a horrible public transit system and the city has been plagued for years of riot fear. Even many of us locals complain about driving down to the big bad city. But it is one of my many goals for 2011 to venture out and get to know my city better. And while this feature may be more beneficial to my local readers, I hope the rest of you will at least grow a better appreciation for Cincinnati and make a plan to visit us barefoot, bucktoothed beauties some day ;)

Since the Bengals had a notoriously bad season this year, many of us are not too thrilled to watch the Superbowl this Sunday. But there are a few things to do this weekend that could perk anyone up:

The Cincinnati Ballet is having their "Ballet and Beer" studio series this Thursday, Feb 3. Ticketholders can enjoy a rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream, beer and Larosa's pizza for FREE. You will also have the opportunity to meet with the company's talented dancers and choreographers. For more details please visit: http://www.cballet.org/events/balletandbeer

Cincinnati Sports League is hosting their "3-2-1" special at AliveOne in Mt Adams this Friday. From 6-9 you can enjoy $3 Tangueray Mixed Drinks, $2 Kamikaza shots and $1 Bud Light & Bud Select Bottles with no cover charge! "Like" Cincinnati Sports League or AliveOne on Facebook for more details!

Or, if you want to stay south of the river, the WEBN Stakes party, now in its 10th year of unadulterated rock rowdiness is being held at Turfway Race Track on Saturday, February 5. Its FREE, but you gotta have a ticket, and you can get one only by winning on-air via WEBN or at Turfway random giveaways. Ticketholders will enjoy live racing, drink specials, free food from City Barbecue, Mike-sells, Hooters, O'Charley's, Snappy Tomato Pizza, Tumbleweed and Turfway along with live music and opportunities to win video games, gift certificates, and more. Visit http://www.turfway.com/events.asp or http://www.webn.com/main.html to get more details

I personally will be checking out the 3-2-1 specials at AliveOne on Friday with a group of friends. If any of you check out the ballet or WEBN deal, please report back to us! And remember to drink responsibly people. A safe ride home is as fabulous as is gets :)

Most Desirable Woman

AskMen has just named their Most Desirable Woman and this year Blake Lively took the crown.

As I am a huge fan of all things Gossip Girl, I couldn't be more thrilled. Unless of course, it was Leighton Meester, who did make the cut coming in at No. 53! Go S & B!

Thanks to Google and WeHeartIt.com for the pictures!
